a girl sat on a bench, coffee in one hand and her phone in the other. it wasn't her normally afternoon activity, but she decided to switch it up. she sat there, texting away like a mad woman, telling her dear little sister everything that she needed to know. genevieve had known that her parents love life was breaking, she'd known for ages, but her sister was just paying enough attention now to notice the cold shoulders and the snooty remarks. she felt horrible, knowing that she had left her sister behind in such an environment while she took off to another part of the world to study. her sister saw it as living her life but genevieve saw it as betrayal and desertion. she had never known how to handle anything like this, that was why she was so horrible at relationships. they started and soon later they ended, there was nothing exciting in the middle. she had always been lousy at really expressing her feelings, so it was always a difficult experience. plus, many of the boys she dated were guys she didn't actually like. she had never learned that little 'just say no' lesson that every kid learned in kindergarten. she'd been home schooled, enough said.
her hand ached as she closed her phone after the final message was sent, and she sat there, sipping her hot coffee. it may be the middle of the summer, but that never stopped her from relaxing with a cup of coffee. it always seemed to be the only thing that could calm her nerves better than anything else. a sigh passed her lips as she leaned back, taking in her surroundings as she did so. the students whom she went to school with walked or sat or lay around her, all with someone there to comfort them, or a book to sooth there broken and mending hearts. that made her sigh again, because it made the knowledge that she was alone sink deeper. it was never a pleasant feeling, knowing only too well that there was no one there for you to rest your head on their shoulder. if only she had someone who wouldn't judge or interrupt her, then maybe she could smile like she used to. her teeth grazed her lower lip at the impossible notion, and she looked down. gin toyed with her coffee cup's cap, pulling the flap until it broke off with a snap. the thought of having someone who cared about her and not her status was something that seemed nearly as impossible as a penguin learning to fly.
the teen looked up and around again, her eyes gazing around the coffee shop, searching the crowd for familiar faces. her teeth grazed her lower lip, and ginny lifted her hand, running her slender fingers through the blonde locks. life currently wasn't going as great as it could, and her emotions were a blur, cause they were always changing. of course, it was all because of her parents sudden divorce, and her sister's anger for the way she held the information from her. she'd apologized, but her sister was obviously mad for a reason. if it were reverse, she wouldn't talk to herself either. gin shook her head, trying to place the thoughts out of her mind while she relaxed against her seat. she needed a distraction, one that would keep her occupied.
