* I KNEW THAT I C O U L D FEEL THAT
FEELS LIKE I AM WALKING ON A I R* zelodide was dressed in this, on this cold thursday afternoon. she was on her way to the grocery store. she had ran out of food, and take out was becoming to much. she had the money for it but that stuff was high in calories she didnt want to take on. zel was pretty healthy and loved staying in shape. she loved working out, and all that jazz. she hasn't been to the gym in awhile actually. ever since her brother, rafael died she had stopped doing a lot of things. her average gym visits, her coffee dates with all of her girlfriends, almost everything. however, receiving the letters form bryce would brighten up her day. even on her saddest days,just writing tot he guy brought a smile to her face. what upset her the most about rafe's death was that she never had a chance to say goodbye, she never wrote to him while he was away. all he life she's been jealous of rafe. her mother left her father when she was barely born, and she had to go through the whole custody thing. her mother got to see her on the weekends, but during the week she was with rafe and his family. she couldn't call her own dad her own father anymore, she had to share him with rafael. rafael had both his mother and his father for him. her mother killed herself, her father knew she had been slipping away, but left her anyways. zel always thought he father was selfish.. you didn't just leave someone cause they had a problem. you'd stick it out with them, right? so zel never got to know her real mother, only rafels, who had to be the mother of her life. being that she lived with zel and her father.
since she met bryce, she knew there wouldnt be anyone that could make her smile like him. he had made her smile on their first day meeting each other, which had been hard. she had been depressed since. now he was gone. she had faith in him though, he was trying to make a way back here, so she could see him. she didnt know what they were, they acted like they where together, but that was only because they had the guts too right? only because he was far away. if they seen each other up close, would they be acting like that? she hoped so. in his last letter he had told her that he liked her, and he did and said stupid things to impress her, and he wouldn't change it for the world. zelodide did have friends to cheer her up, she had friends to have coffee with, friends to shop with, friends to cheer her up, friends she could connect with - like david. they had both lost someone they loved due to this war. they were both slowly slipping away, sort of. his wife died, during the war. she felt horrible for him. however, she felt good knowing that he didnt mind talking to her about it. simply, because she had lost someone in the war as well, or she thought she did. she didn't now rafe was alive. she didnt have one clue about it. she couldn't lose bryce to the war as well. she could only pray his escape plan would work. if she'd lose him, she wouldn't know what she would do. she just wished she would have known that night would have been his last night with her. she would've wrapped him in her arms and told him how much she was in love with him. there were so many things she did regret not saying, "i love you" was one of them. however. she didn't know if she'd ever have the guts to tell him that. words like that she hasn't used in a while. sometimes she thought she forgot what love was until that days he met bryce.
zelodide pared her car and walked down the main street, further down she would make her way into the small little store they had full of healthy choices and all that jazz to eat. the streets weren't to crowded, people didnt like running errands on such a cold day. therefore, it wasnt to hard for her to spot david, further down. she smirked, waving her hand in acknowledgment. she walked over to him, "hey." she said, a small smile on her face. "what are you doing out here?" she asked him, looking around a little. wow, people must've really hated the weather. if the weather was this bad here she could only imagine how bad it was over where the war was being fought. she looked back at david. she admired him, he was a soldier, a hero. he had served his time, however. he was still standing here, strong. she could only hope bryce would return the same way. however, she knew that david wasn't 'okay', he would never be 'okay', he had seen things that no one should have to see. he has gone through things that no one should have to go to. "the weather out here today is horrible." she said, making conversation. thats what she usually did. she didnt find him intimidating at all, she'd talk to him about whatever. she just felt good knowing that if he ever needed someone to talk to or complain with, she was that girl he could run too. they where pretty good friends, they where never suppose to be friends. but ones tragedy can bring two people together. thats what brought them together, the fact that they both lost someone. she had met him a week after she found out her brother died. he was just that perfect stranger to talk to about it, she was down and depressed. she didnt know whys he felt so comfortable talking to him about things but she did. it was weird, certain things could bring people together. even the darkest of people, like david. he wasn't in a good place as of now, but neither was she. however, she had more things she could be thankful for than david could. she couldn't imagine what she would do if she ever married a person who would soon die. however, david was still hanging in there. he was a good guy, he didn't deserve what had happened to him.

david grumbled as the slit of light hit his face. why hadn't he closed the curtains all the way last night? every morning that light shone in on him, and every morning he vowed to tie the curtains together if he had to, just so he could get a bit more sleep, but he knew it wasn't the curtains that made him toss and turn all night. it was the nightmares. the images of a world at war, and the deaths of friends, as well as the very intimate death of his wife. how could he have let her cover him like that. he was the man. it should have been him that was protecting her. he tried to push the memory out of his mind, but all he could picture in his dreams was that one stream of blood that dribbled out of the side of her mouth, and the enormous pain in his side that had rendered him unable to walk for a time. the scar was still there to prove that he'd served his time, and he deserved to be free from the army. he had never really been sure what they were fighting for. everyone said it was for freedom, but david had only joined the army to get some adventure in his life. he'd had plenty of that, and somehow he wished that he'd never joined. he might not have met his beautiful wife, but she also might not be dead right now. he would be willing to sacrifice their life together if it meant she was still alive. he grimaced as he rolled out of bed and onto the floor. he was happy that his bed laid so low to the ground. the cool carpet relieved his warm body. he always got really hot at night, no matter how cold it was outside. he pressed his face against the wood floor and sighed, knowing that he would eventually have to get up and shower and get ready for the day. another day that would pass by in a meaningless blur. the only days that seemed to stick in his mind these days were the ones that he spent with zelodide. sometimes it felt like she was one of the only people willing to talk to him.
he didn't bother shaving, it seemed unnecessary to him. he just took his shower and made sure to be clean. he may be scruffy, but there was no way he was going to let his depression make him dirty and gross. he still had to go out in public. well, he tried to avoid it, but sometimes he had to go grocery shopping, or he would meet someone for coffee. he rarely did things spontaneously, but who knew what the day would bring.
the day brought an expired half-empty milk carton, and two eggs. he sighed as he looked at the contents of his fridge. he didn't even have any bacon. his fridge was completely bare. he had plenty of money, but he just didn't have the will to go to the store every week, so he would usually eat absolutely everything he had, and then he would go shopping. he guessed that now was the time to go and stock up for another month. well milk wouldn't last that long, but he still had hope that he could get enough food to stay holed up for a while. maybe if he had friends he could ask them to go grocery shopping for him, but then he got the feeling they wouldn' t be his friend for much longer. he knew that wallowing in his own self-pity was unbecoming of a young man who was free of his restraints by the army. he sighed as he took out the eggs and fried them up really quickly. he threw the milk out after he finished his eggs. he slid into his warm jacket and a pair of jeans. he'd hoped to stay in his sweatpants all day, but it didn't look like that was happening. he took a look in the mirror and felt a familiar feeling of disgust. how had he turned into this shadow of himself. he knew the answer, and it turned in his gut. he didn't want to think about her anymore, because there was no saving her. for the two months she suffered in that coma, he had stayed by her side, only leaving for rehab. somehow he'd hoped that if he learned how to walk again, she would learn to live again. it was a false hope, but people never really give up until the very end.
the store was only a few blocks away from his 5 bedroom home. they had planned to fill it up with children, but now he was stuck there alone. he couldn't afford to move out, and it wouldn't sell in this market. it was worth a lot of money, being such a large house, but besides the low market, he didn't think he could sell it. he already had so little left of the woman he'd meant to share it with. selling the house felt like it would be betraying their dream. even if he had to fulfill that dream with another woman, he still hoped that someday he could fill that house with children's laughter and crayon drawings on the wall. he knew that she would want him to move on and find another woman to share that dream with, but he didn't know how he possibly could, not with the hurt in his heart. it was too painful to think about now.
he hustled into the store and started grabbing things from the shelves. he didn't really pay attention to what he was grabbing. he didn't have to worry about costs, and frankly he just wanted to get home because Cash Cab would be on soon, and he couldn't really miss that. he liked trivia shows. he grabbed as much bacon as he thought he could consume before it would go bad. he was always a big fan of bacon. cheese was also a big thing with him. to prove the point, he grabbed a couple bricks of cheddar cheese, his favorite kind. he didn't care if he gained weight and became that 800 lb. man who never left his couch because he couldn't walk. he welcomed the idea. then he could have the government pay for a sexy nurse to give him sponge baths. he smirked at the thought as he looked at something on the shelf. he quickly purchased his items and paid the person behind the counter. it was a kid he'd seen around town. "can i ask you a favor? I walked here. do you think you could have these delivered for me. i didn't expect to get so much." It was a lie, but he could already feel his back acting up, and there was no way he'd be able to carry this all home. he was already sure that he'd have to pull out his cane half way to his house. he was a twenty-nine year old guy with a collapsable cane... oh the irony. the clerk just nodded. he smiled and thanked him, giving his address. the guy said it would probably be there in about an hour since it was an odd sort of delivery.
he walked outside and stood looking in the window to make sure the clerk didn't ignore his groceries. when the clerk started carrying them back to the delivery area he turned just in time to see a woman he hadn't seen in a while. "zelodide! hi." he said, caught a bit off guard. he felt a bit of the cold drift away from his body. she had that kind of warm calming effect about her. that was why he liked her so much. he wasn't sure how they'd been brought together as friends, but they had. it meant a lot to him, even though he was sure that some people wondered why such a young girl was having coffee with an old-timer like him. he got the feeling that when he walked with his cane people saw him as older than he actually was. not that he really cared what people thought of him anymore. he would be satisfied with becoming that crazy old guy who lives in that rundown house on park street. he liked the idea of coming out to get his paper in his bathrobe and barking at all the kids who were throwing things in his yard. not exactly what he'd always dreamed of for his life, but it felt more and more likely with each passing day. "I was just picking up some groceries." he said answering her question quickly. "i agree. i probably should have driven, but i walked and now i'm freezing." he said with a small smile and rubbed his arms in a motion to warm himself up. his coat was warm enough, but his jeans weren't really very protective, and neither were his well-worn nikes. "what are you doing out and about?" he asked sniffling a little as the cold nipped at his nose.

* I KNEW THAT I C O U L D FEEL THAT
FEELS LIKE I AM WALKING ON A I R* zelodide's smile grew when he had noticed her presence. zelodide wasn't picky when it came to her friends, age was a number, the way they looked didn't matter, the way they acted didn't either. hah, if they were weird as hell she'd play 'weird' out along with them. all of her life zelodide has been a pretty friendly girl. she's never had a reason not to be, besides her mother, who she didn't even get the chance to know very well. she was like the light in the darkest places. even though things haven't been so bright for her either lately, she'd put on an act and a smile if it meant one in return. the city, dermont, has been down lately. not only in public activities but the people here. many people form dermont were drafted into the war, or they volunteered. there has been a lot of people she had known that has passed away. like logan, and ray, she might not have been close to them like harley and rome were. but they still knew each other. hah, when zel was younger she hung out with only girls, that liked to play dress up, and have fake tea parties. she and harley weren't that close, she had herself a "popular club" and she had told harley the only way she could be apart of it is that she would have to stop hanging out with the boys, cause when you were younger you thought boys had cooties, and all of that jazz. haha, she herself could admit she was a stuck up, snobby, little girl. however, she was cute, and she loved the public event dermont would throw. like the little kids talent shows, she did it all whens he was younger. she was a cute little girl too, but their were some ugly things about her. like the way she hated rafael, at such a young age she hated her own brother. she wasn't as bad as she was when she was younger. she was an angel compared to back then. she and harley had grown really close, actually. especially during their middle school years, zel wasn't as snobby. zelodide was very accepting to everyone, even though harley wasn't wealthy, and she couldn't do as much as the other kids due to her heart condition the two we're still close as ever. she still, however, sort of wished she had gotten to know logan and ray though. they were gone and she would never get the chance to.
it felt like dermont was the home of pain and suffering now. a lot of people left for this war that no one truly knew was about. "hey you!" she smiled. she didn't care how odd people may have thought david was, she knew he was a genuinely nice person. he was just hurting, he just expressed his pain in blocking people off. david was a hero in zel's eyes, and she was lucky to be friends with him. she hated it when people would stare at an injured previous soldier with disgust. the reason they were injured was so you could be safe, so why would a person treat a soldier like that. sure, he was older than her, about 8 - 9 years older than her, but she didn't care. she could be friends with who she wanted, no matter how old they where. besides, not to many people could resists zel's charm. it was seriously hard not to like her. the girl was a sweetheart. however, that didn't mean she would let people walk over her, or the people she cared about. she was waiting for a reply from david, and then he told her he was just picking up some groceries. she store at his hands, assuming he hadn't got them yet. " yeah, that's what i'm about to do. there's absolutely nothing in my fridge. how about it? how about we buy tons of foods together? huh?" she smiled, looking up at david. then she had told him about the weather, horrible, if it wasn't rainy it was really windy. or worse, it was both. she smirked when he said he had walked. oh, that would be horrible if he had to walk back. lucky for him she was here, and had drove herself.
zelodide smiled again before she said, "walking, in weather like this? i knew you were a daredevil deep down but that? thats crazy!" she giggled. " however, lucky for you i drove, and i'd be happy to give a friend a ride home, whenever." she told him. she wouldn't mind driving him home. it wasn't a big deal, she didn't have to much planned for today anyways, she just needed to get these groceries then she had a free day on her hands. "i would have ordered online, but it would take to long to be delivered, so i came here in person to get some groceries. tired of take out.." she told him, answering his question. he had looked so cold, poor thing. "you know, i'd offer my jacket, since i have a sweater on too, but i don't know what people would think seeing mr. maddison with a very feminine clothing article on...unless you want it." she said teasingly. she had fun saying things to try to get him to smile, even smirk, maybe grin. "-but you know what, i can go grocery shopping later. unless you wanna go?" she said, she thought now would be a perfect time to spend with her good pal.
zelodide looked further down the street, "we can go into this place further down, hot coffee there and pie and everything, you'll love it!?" she offered. she had been in that cafe once before, the dessert was really good, and so were the drinks. it gave you this "home" vibe, it was nice and warm even on the coldest days like now. it was never to crowded, and that was nice to zelodide. she felt like the world could use more places like that. places that could make a person feel at home even when they were out of home. it was worth a try. she was pretty warm actually, but david could use it. he looked like he needed some coffee, to wake himself up a little more. plus, even though she didn't drink coffee that often she could go for one herself right about now. she didn't want to spend the rest of this day sleeping and coffee could prevent that. plus, starbucks got boring after a while. walking in, getting the same thing, seeing the same people reading the same newspaper they read the other day, or talking on the phone like what they were talking about was so important. she usually went out and had coffee with antionette when there was nothing else to do. her life wasn't that interesting, honestly, despite the tragedies she had suffered, and was suffering, being that the man she loved was far away, her life wasn't that great. she didn't have any hardcore stories, sure she suffered like everyone else. however, she suffered from the small things, like heart break. she has had her heart broken once. she didnt have any crazy party stories, she wasn't a partier. she thought there was more to life than getting drunk, sleeping around, and having a hangover the next day. there had to be. everyone had their own special reason for living, she believed. she thought she was meant to be a writer, sure she was talented in other levels but she loved writing. people had so many storied that needed to be heard, like david's. she wouldn't mind becoming a novelists, just writing in general made her happy.

she had caught him off guard with her warm approach to him. it wasn't surprising that when he returned to the town many people treated him like a pariah. first of all, he looked like hell and he was a total asshole his first few weeks back. if anyone had tried to talk to him he bit their head off, and pretty much severed all ties with them. he wasn't proud of the way he acted, but he didn't care enough to mend fences either. frankly, he could care less what people think of him. so it wasn't often he got a warm welcoming smile from someone, especially someone as beautiful as zelodide. he was glad that he hadn't managed to push her away. she was one of the few people in town who were willing to go that extra mile when someone needed it. sure, he'd been her shoulder to cry on when she'd found out about her brother, but it wasn't like he hadn't opened up to her as well. they had a mutual bond that he hoped would never break. no matter what their ages were, they both had the kind of souls that just connected. he had the feeling their friendship would have existed no matter what bodies they'd been born in or how far apart they were. at first it had been a mutual understanding of the other's hardships, and eventually it just transformed into a caring friendship of trust and sibling like love. he was very protective of her, and since she was one of the few people he really trusted, he would do anything for her. he remembered a lady on his block catching up to him and asking him about his relationship with zel, like he was some kind of perv or something. she was old enough to be a consenting adult if there was anything going on, but he knew that as much as he loved zel like a sister, something like that would never happen. she was just to precious to dump all his relationship baggage on, besides, he knew that she was burning a candle for another young soldier on the frontlines. he had tried for quite some time to get the boy home after a recruiter's foolish mistake, but there was too much tape to get through. he just couldn't get the boy home fast enough. so, he was content in pretending that he knew nothing about the kid, or what he was planning to do. he didn't really know much, just what zel had told him. it was obvious when she spoke about him that she was in love with him.
He laughed when she asked him to go grocery shopping with her. he was about to tell her that he'd already been shopping, but she interrupted with her weather talk, and he didn't really mind. it just gave him more time to think of a way to spend more time with her. even men who enjoyed being alone sometimes still got a bit lonely, and it was nice to have someone to just talk to. "I was being ruled by my hungry tummy. i have no food in my house." he said with a laugh, almost feeling like a regular human being, standing there in bad weather and laughing with a friend. he almost felt like his old self.... almost. "you're amazing. it would have been very embarassing walking around with my cane and having all those little kids laugh at me. i already bought my groceries by the way." he added the last part as an after thought because he didn't want to walk around the whole store again, and buy the same things. she knew he had an obsession with bacon but since he already bought enough to last him a year, she would know something was up if he pretended he hadn't bought his groceries already and didn't grab bacon. it would be a tangled web of lies that he couldn't deal with. nope, the truth would set him free, and also give him a ride home. he smiled, hoping that it was okay with her. "they're going to deliver them for me. i didn't expect it to be this bad out." he said and looked around, as though to confirm to himself that the weather was terrible.
"Oh, no thank you. my legs are what's cold. if you offer me your pants... well that would just be uncomfortable for both of us." he said with a laugh. it felt foreign to him. he never laughed. it hurt him to laugh most of the time. even when he was watching something funny on tv, he rarely enjoyed it. "So, that's a no on the groceries i'm afraid. i don't think i can stand walking around that store again." he said, feeling his side squeek out in pain a little at the meer thought of it. the doctors had said it would take him a while to heal, but how long was "a while" anyway.
"you had me at pie." he said with a slight grin. he held his arm out for her to lead the way. he had been there a couple of times for coffees when he hadn't felt like going to starbucks. he'd been there more before he was shipped out than since he'd been back. it felt like the kind of place that he just wasn't supposed to be in. he had the feeling that if he was with zel, or any other person in general, it might feel more welcoming. the only thing he really knew was that he needed to get off his feet now. in this weather, he was lucky his legs hadn't already buckled out from underneath him. he was a relatively strong guy, so this weakness really bugged him. his arms and hands were still as strong as ever. his heart still beat with the same strength it had before he'd been injured, but for some reason his legs had decided to enjoy their vacation. he was angry at everything, all the time he had something to be upset about, but when it came to his legs, he was just disappointed. he did not want to use a cane the rest of his life. "I could use some coffee too, if you can't tell." he said with a bitter laugh about the hours of sleep he was always losing.

* I KNEW THAT I C O U L D FEEL THAT
FEELS LIKE I AM WALKING ON A I R* zelodide smiled when he used the words "hungry tummy." she never thought she'd hear that last one come out of his mouth. she couldn't help but laugh a little, "aww, well, thats no good. your tummy doesn't deserve that." she smiled. she didn't think it was weird to say words like 'tummy' or 'sweetie' or 'pumpkin'. she was corny like that, she always has been. some people couldn't stand it about her, then others couldn't help but love it about her. she was still sort of childish at heart, that being good at times, and bad at other times. "besides, your not the only one." she smiled, her fridge was completely empty. she only had the stuff that you put on the food, but not the food itself. she giggled when he called her amazing, shrugging her shoulders. "well i try." she smiled. "we just have amazing timing." she said. they had always been bumping into each other. hah, it was like destinys way of saying "go be friends with that person." she always saw him around. "embrace your cane." she said, teasing him.she didn't mind that he had a cane, she knew about his legs giving out on him not to long ago. so, why would she care? everyone had their imperfections. unfortunately, for him, his legs were one of his "aww no fair, bought them already without me....booo." she smirked. she didn't care, she could go grocery shopping by herself later. as for now she could go for coffee.
it was nice to know that he woudlnt have to carry all of the groceries he had got. "mmm, sounds good. haha. i want to, so badly, see your face when they hand you your eight or twelve bags of bacon." she giggled. she knew he was a fan of it. she ate it too, sometimes she'd make it with scrampled eggs, toast, and then she'd add bacon into the mix. an original breakfast. however never more than two to three strips of it. haha she could imagine david eating the whole package it comes in. then she had mentioned his wearing her jacket. she laughed when he said his legs were cold, and that he would need her pants to keep them warm. "oh, no , dont think i can....ha! yes exactly, thats the best word for it. hahah they'd probably be to tight on you anyways, and then you'd stretch them out, and i'd look stupid for walking around with no pants on." she laughed. david was buff, everywhere, form his abbs, to his arms, the his legs. he'd definitely stretch out anything of hers that he would put on. she didn't think to hard when she heard david laugh, it was normal to her. hearing laughter from anyone in general. she would never understand how odd it would be for david to laugh.
zelodide then invited him to have pie with her, and maybe a cup of coffee. an odd mix but he said yeah. "all types of pie." she added in. she smiled when he gestured her to lead the way. walking in front of him she started to walk towards the coffee cafe. "i think i can go for a slice of warm apple pie." she smiled, its like she could smell it now. she loved pie, she loved making it, and eating it. she loved cooking in general, something that she did for fun. plus, you had to know how to cook if you were planning on being a mother one day. that's what she wanted to be, a mother. she smiled when he told her that he could use some coffee. she placed a confused look on her face turning around, walking backwards for a little when she said, "hmm...i never noticed." then smiled again turning back around and continuing to lead the way. once they entered the coffee cafe she held the door open for him, so he wouldn't have trouble trying to walk in with his cane in his hand. once he was inside she closed the door. it wasn't to crowded, a few coupled sitting down and having coffee.
zelodide loved the way it smelt inside. it brought a smile to her face, plus it was warm. "come on?" she told david and lead them to a table far away from the others. she knew how david felt to close to people he didnt know and everything. "i'll be right back, i'm gonna go tell them what we want...2 coffees, and 1 slice of apple pie for me, two for you." she said. she was willing to go up and order form there, she didnt want the waitresses looking at david in any kind of weird way. that would make them both uncomfortable. she walked up to the cash register and told the lady she wanted to order there. she told her what she wanted, "-and when its ready just call me? i'm zelodide." she said, taking out her money and paying for it there. usually you left it ont he table before you went. she didn't mind paying for much, she had all the money to do so. she walked back over and sat across form david. "its much warmer in here." she smiled. she was genuinely a good friend for david. one that he needed.

he realized quickly that the words hungry tummy had left his mouth. around anyone else that might be embarassing, but zel didn't make fun of him for it, which only made him happier that she was the one he was talking to right now. "I know. it goes through pretty harsh treatment from me." he said and patted his belly with a look of pity on his face. the truth was that he either had a ton of groceries or none. there was rarely a happy medium. at least it took him a long time to consume all of his groceries. so trips like this were uncommon for him. he was glad that the one day he did decide to go out and do something, she was around to make it enjoyable. the limited social interaction he had with others was rough on him sometimes, but that was how he liked it. he couldn't handle all those people looking at him in pity. he may not have grown up in this town, but his wife did, and if the people in town didn't blame him for her death, then they looked at him with pity. he barely knew anyone here, so it was crazy for him to live here, but he knew he couldn't really ever go home either. his parents would spend the whole time coddling him, and most of the time he just wanted to be left alone. plus, his giant house wasn't just goin to sell itself. he might as well use it. "I'm glad to know i'm not the only person who eats all their food until their fridge is practically empty." he said with a laugh. his fridge was actually completely empty. well, there was a pickle jar in there, but it only had a couple pickles in it, so he didn't count that. "maybe we're telepathically linked." he said as a joke. he knew that some friends had that kind of connection, but he and zel hadn't been as close as they are for very long. besides, he wasn't quite sure he believed in the whole telepathic bond thing that some people claimed they had, or twins claimed to have.
"embrace it? i'm too young and sexy for a cane." he said with another one of those foreign laughs. he would never classify himself as young or sexy. he'd seen way too much to be young. with what he'd seen in the three years he'd served, he was pretty much an old man. he could sit with vietnam veterans and tell them horror stories about war. sometimes, he thought he was born into the wrong generation in general. the fact that he had scars all over his body, well, mostly on his side, and on his legs, meant that the sexy part could be ruled out too. plus, he had all that facial hair and he didn't bother really doing anything to his hair either. it was getting long, but he dreaded getting it cut. he just never had a good experience while getting a haircut. the people always ended up totally butchering his hair, so he either looked like a teen boy or he looked like his father. neither of which were really something he wanted. being in the army had been good for his hair, nice short and fuzzy, those were the days. "I'm sorry. next time call me, and we can go together." he said in a teasing way, knowing she didn't care if they bought them together or not. she was just being nice in offering. now that he thought about it, she probably had somewhere to be and he was holding her up. oh well, as long as she wanted to stay, she would. she knew he wouldn't be offended if she just said goodbye and left. they both had busy lives... well he didn't really, but still, he was flexible with their friendship since they never planned on bumping into each other, they just did.
he laughed when she hit it right on the head about his obsession with bacon. it was a genuine laugh. how was she making him laugh so much? it was so odd. he'd spent the last two weeks flipping through channels and walking about his house like a ghost, without a single smirk or giggle, but somehow she managed to pull them out of him without even trying. he appreciated that. "bacon is my life source. it's only man's best invention." he said, pretending to be defensive of it, like she was insulting it. he knew that she didn't care what he bought or ate, but it was fun to have a light teasing conversation with someone. especially if that someone managed to make you forget about the things you harbor in your heart, even if it's only for a second. "what, you don't think i can pull off the skinny jeans look?" he asked with a pure grin on his face. the thought of it made him laugh. it was only comfy loose jeans for him. they made it easier to walk, and that meant more time on his feet without pain. tight pants would murder him. he laughed inwardly at the thought of him in skinny jeans, a black t-shirt, and hunched over on his cane. that would definitely be a sight. "but you walking around with pants. i don't think anyone would complain." he said it as a joke. she had a nice body. in this weather, people would think she was crazy, but he didn't know why that would matter. he'd never cared what people thought of him. so why should she.
"Pie is probably the food of heaven." he said, knowing that he adored pie about as much as he adored bacon. he laughed a bit and wondered if they made bacon pie. he was sure that somewhere in the world, they must have made pie out of bacon, and brown sugar. he was never much of a cook himself, but maybe he'd expirament when he got home. he found himself creating his own recipes more and more often these days. he followed her toward the cafe, still thinking about how he was going to bake a bacon pie. it would definitely be an expirament. she was being complimentary to him. he smiled in thanks. "I'm sure i don't look completely exhausted." he said with a bit of sarcasm and a smirk. he followed her the rest of the way and gave her a thankful nod when she opened the door for him. he normally wouldn't have expected it, or been to happy if someone had done it for him. he was capable of opening a door for himself, but he knew that it wasn't about pity when she did it. she was just being curtious. so he obliged her and let her hold the door for him. it wasn't like he was the type of guy to flip out about little things like that anyway. the smell of coffee stung his nostrils and he revelled in it. he loved coffee, always had, always will. he could also smell the mixing flavors of pies and other baked goods for peoples' choosing. he followed her to a table, away from the other people and their staring eyes. not all of them were staring, but enough of them to bug him. they were just curious, but it bothered him that people looked at him differently when he had been walking too long and had to hobble around.
"sounds delicious." he said with a grin, and let her go get the food and coffee. when he was sitting finally, he collapsed his cane and slid it into his pocket. that was the cool part about having a cane that he could collapse. when he didn't need it, he could just stick it into his pocket. it wasn't as supportive as his strong wooden one at home, but it worked when he went out, which was rarely. he was hoping that with more rehab he could use his cane less and less, and then be walking without it within a year. "yes, nice to be inside. plus, it smells awesome. almost decieves you into believing it's nice outside too." he said with a grin. he would leave money on the table too. he knew she'd paid for him, and he knew it would be an uncomfortable conversation of they talked about it. he would just pay for the next one.

* I KNEW THAT I C O U L D FEEL THAT
FEELS LIKE I AM WALKING ON A I R* zelodide didn't doubt that his stomach went through pretty harsh treatment. hers did too, she was the same way. she either had lots of food, or none. usually it were her friends that came over and ate up all the junk. sometimes she would buy a lot of junk and not eat it, she knew her friends would get to it first. she was a weird type of eater. she did enjoy meat, she found it crazy that some people didn't, however, she enjoyed vegetables and fruits just as much. when she was younger she was always raised up with a healthy diet, the chef would cook everything so healthy. he'd add in a little bit of this and a little bit of that. she wasn't afraid to try new foods either. just because she watched what she ate didn't mean she thought she was too big, she wasn't. she wasn't super skinny, she was curvy at anything. she had a skinny waist, shaped like a bottle, i guess one could say? she didn't think there was anything wrong with her shape. she wasn't stuck up, and she didn't have a big ego. she just had confidence in herself. so all together she was healthy because she wanted to be, not because she didn't like the way she looked. eating the write things was good in general. it provided longer lives, more energy to do things, less risks of certain diseases, cleared skin if you drunk enough spring water as well. she didn't understand how people could go without eating, or just throw up everything they ate. the thought of it was disgusting, quite honestly. especially guys, she didn't understand how some guys could be so scrawny, and enjoy it. she loved cooking so if she ever dated someone they'd have to love eating. that's the way it worked with her. she could cook all types of things, that's something that the chef she had when she was younger would help her with. he taught her how to cook a bunch of things. when her dad, and rafe's mom weren't around as much as they could be she spent time with the employees. she simply nodded to his statement about hist stomach receiving harsh treatment and such. she laughed when he mentioned not being the only person that ate up all of his food in his fridge. "hey! i didn't do all of that by myself, okay buddy?" she laughed.
it made zelodide feel good to hear him laugh. when she had first seen him she thought it was impossible, probably, for him to even smile. so when he did laugh she didn't think it odd, but she embraced it with pleasure. she didn't believe in being telepathically linked to someone, things like that didn't happen. she just laughed, " possibly." she added in. well, if it were real in zel's mind it would make sense. she saw him a lot of places. adding onto why their great friendship was an accident. they never planned on running into each other, but most of the time they did it was hard to walk away without spending time with each other. she laughed about what he said, he was too young and sexy to embrace his cane. "pssh, your not young. hehe your almost thirty" she teased, she didn't say anything denying his sexiness. he was sexy, scars and all. his abdominals were amazing, she could tell by the way his shirts would hit him, even the lose one. she thought he was sexy, but she wasn't physically attracted to him. he was like, just a friend to her, that's the way it would stay. she admired his good looks to, its not like she didn't notice them. it just made her happy for him, looks could only get you so far she was just glad he had a good heart, underneath the coldness. she smirked, she wouldn't tell him he wasn't sexy, cause that would be a lie, but hell - he wasn't young. "-then again your not old so your at that good age." she added in. she nodded, b]"yeah and maybe we can actually plan our events together, eh?"
[/b] she laughed, when they spent time together it was hardly ever planned out. "no need to be sorry, though." she had let him know. she smirked at the tone of voice he had said that with. " - but yes, i definitely will." she told him. zelodide thought that the way he liked bacon was cute if anything, unhealthy but cute. bacon was pretty good when you were hungry, and easy to cook. she couldn't agree with him when it came to bacon being mans best invention, "hah, can you really call it an invention? besides, mans best invention has to be skinny jeans in general." she smiled, she loved her some skinny jeans. she dressed up a lot, but when she didn't feel like it she'd throw on some skinny jeans, she just liked the way they looked on her. "oh and lip gloss, and music!" she smiled. "i can go on and on...but bacon is not one of them." she teased him. she shook her head, "your to masculine and everything to pull off the skinny jeans." she laughed, imagining a pair of blue skinny jeans on him, they'd be way to tight. she laughed when he said that she walking around in no pants wouldn't be too bad. "ha!" she said, she'd never do that. probably if she were at herself, like with a t shirt on and no pants on. in the other case, no one was going to get to see too much skin of hers unless she was dating them or something. "probably not, but that would never happen. you'd have to work to see me with no pants on." she said, a small laugh. zelodide with no pants on, i public, that was rare. "but if you want a show like that hit up the night clubs? those girls shorts are super short - if you can call those things shorts at all?" she laughed. she found it ridiculous how a few people she knew would dress themselves up. zel's style was teasing but classy at times, left more to the imagination. she loved dressing up though, she was pretty formal when it came down to it. now that it was winter she could be, there were plenty of good clothes for her to buy, that she would wear one. she smiled, continuing to walk along with him, leading him to the cafe. " i don't think so." she teased. zelodide smiled as they made their way to the table, and she had made her way back after ordering what they wanted. "delicious, that's the best you can come up with. how about fantastic? or wonderful?" she teased, resting her arms on the table as she focused her light green eyes on david. she loved the environment in this place, even if there were a few stares, she'd take them as positive even if they weren't. she was always thinking positively, or trying to. if someone was mad - dogging her she'd probably just think that that persons face was naturally ugly, then give a look of pity to the person. looks were just words, she didn't mind, unless they had the guts to say it. she could fight other girls if she needed to, she didn't enjoy it at all, but she did what she had when she had too. since she ate right and worked out right, she was pretty strong. "ha, your absolutely right. i came in here one time and stayed for a couple of hours, i was having a talk with my friend, then walked out and was completely blown away in shock about how cold it had been." she laughed. he wondered if zel was a good cook. he'd never had the opportunity to actually eat any of her cooking, since most of their meetings weren't planned. he felt a bit like a loser, telling her all his groceries were gone. it was pretty obvious he was the only person who ever ate the food at his house. he didn't have any house guests over if he could help it. his house was always nice and clean, because he refused to live in filth, but sometimes he felt like a fool cleaning it for nobody to look at it. he wondered if eventually he would just let it all turn to dust. that seemed like the ideal. eventually he'd be too old to clean it by himself, so he'd hire a sexy lady to come in and clean it twice a week. hmm, maybe he would be less heartbroken then and he'd take advantage of the situation. he couldn't imagine himself as being some old creeper. it was too disgusting to picture. he would never turn into that man. it was bad enough that everyone thought he was barking up the wrong trees age wise. all the girls he interacted with were at the least 5 years younger than him. most of the other women in the town were either going to school, or had been drafted. there weren't a lot of women to talk to his own age. if they were out of college they were at war. so, he got close to the people who seemed to have similar souls to him. zel's soul and his just meshed well. they were always going to be close, because that was just the way it was. he didn't care what anyone thought of him, but if he ever heard anyone calling his female friends whores or anything of the like, he couldn't be responsible for his actions. they were nice enough to reach out to him when nobody would. even his best friend had ditched him. "i was going to say... if you did... then you have an amazing metabolism." he said with a grin, complimenting her. he didn't know if she could eat the entire contents of a fridge, but if she did, he'd probably still think she was beautiful. her eyes were what gave her away. even if she weighed 3000 lbs. and smelled like maple syrup, not a particulary unpleasant smell, he would still love her like a sister, because her eyes betrayed her. even when she was acting tough, he only had to look at her eyes and see the wonderful person beneath her tough exterior.
"not very likely though." he had the feeling that if she was ever telepathically linked to someone it would be to a certain boy across the seas, and not him. he was content with that. according to zel he was an amazing guy, so as long as he made her happy, he wouldn't have to kick the guys ass. "Thanks for making me feel like a grandpa." he said with a bit of a pout. he knew that he seemed older than he rightfully was. people often seemed surprise to find out he was only twenty-nine. they would just look at him like he was lying. what guy really cared how old he was? she defended herself by bouncing back and saying that he was at a good age. he was at a good age, and he'd be at an even better age once he had completely healed and didn't need this cane anymore. "wait a second... you didn't say anything about me being sexy..." he said, a grin suddenly covering his face. "you think i'm sexy." he said with a teasing laugh.
"yes. our events shall someday be planned. but i do enjoy just casually running into you too." he said, knowing that some of their best times had come from bumping into each other on the street. he had first met her from a bump into each other on the street. she'd been so upset that he'd had to comfort her. it had been good to meet someone in pain, even though he felt selfish for thinking that. but it was nice to know he wasn't alone in this world. that was why he'd clung to her as a friend so heavily at first because she was someone he could talk to and share his pain with, and she understood it. "sure you can call it an invention. it comes from a pig, but it was man who thought to cut it up and package it and 1.99 a package." he said with a grin. he had an odd obsession with the food. he wondered why skinny jeans would be the best invention. they looked uncomfortable to him. he was surprised he even knew what they were. he wasn't terribly fashion forward. "Those are all girly inventions... except music. i can appreciate that." he said. wondering what he'd look like with lip gloss on. he couldn't think about it anymore. the only reason a guy should have glossy lips is right after he's been kissing a girl with glossy lips. he didn't understand these teenagers and their needs to wear eyeliner. he really was an old-timer.
"What kind of work?" he asked teasingly. she was still too young for him, and he still thought of her as just a sister. it would be awkward seeing her walking around without pants or a skirt or some kind of bottoms on. besides, he was in too much emotional pain to go there with anyone. "ha. i don't have to go to a club to see girls in tiny shorts. i don't even want to see girls in tiny shorts. i'm pretty content with being by myself all the time. right now, that's just what i need." he said, matter-of-factly. he didn't need a woman dancing for him. he just needed to get better, learn how to walk again without pain, and then run again, and then maybe he could think about women again. but there was no way he'd be able to do the things he used to, at least not for a while. it didn't help that every second he got older he felt less like even trying to find someone again.
"what? you don't think that apple pie sounds delicious?" he said laughing a bit. then he looked at her with one raised eyebrow and then a look of mock surrender. "all of those would have been very good adjectives as well. i agree." he said, letting her know that her teasing wasn't getting to him. he could be light-hearted when he wanted to be. it was easier with her around. she brought out the smiles in him. he was glad she'd managed to do that. "hopefully it's less shocking today. maybe it will just get sunny while we stay in here." he said with useless hope. a woman approached their table and he looked up at her with a smile. she handed them their order and smiled back at him. he hadn't smiled at a stranger in a long time. zel was definitely having an effect on him. "yum pie." he said grabbing his fork and taking the first bite of his wonderful pie.

* I KNEW THAT I C O U L D FEEL THAT
FEELS LIKE I AM WALKING ON A I R* zelodide smiled when he told her that she thought she had a high metabolism for a second. you see? david could be sweet when he wanted to. " haha, i do though. but i eat all of the healthy things people walk by in the stores, i buy all the junk for my friends, when they come over and all of that stuff." she nodded. "fast metabolism runs in my family, honestly." she told him, honestly. it was the truth. there was no one really over weight with the last name whitlock. that wasn't conceited to say, it was just the truth. she could eat like a horse if she had wanted to, but she knew that everyone's fast metabolism would slow down, and it would probably catch up to her and everything. "- but thanks." she said, finally getting to the point. she was so comfortable around david she could talk on and on about nothingness. she asked his if he believed in being telepathically linked to someone and he said it didn't happen to often. did things like that really happen?
she smiled when he thanked her for making him feel old. she didn't mean it at all that way, so she sort of felt bad. she knew immediately that he didn't take it that bad when she had seen the pout on his face that had made her laugh lightly. "oh, you know thats not what i meant. stop begin silly." she laughed. he wasn't old, he was at an amazing age. the age where you started to build families and fully enjoy life. "maybe if you shaved that beard off, you'd look a little younger...maybe twenty five - ish?" she suggested. he did look good with his beard, but she wanted to see how he'd look with it shaved off. she was so use to seeing his with his heavy beard or light beard, but never a fresh clean cut. she had laughed a little when he realized she didn't say he wasn't sexy. she shrugged at his question. "well, i never said you were...i never said you weren't. so we'll never know." she smiled. she smiled when he had repeated that she thought he was sexy. "well...for a thirty year old, .." she said then playfully stuck her tongue out at him. she smiled, looking up at him. he was a very good looking man, and whoever would end up with him would be lucky.
zelodide nodded. she did enjoy running into him, whens he didn't it honestly felt weird, and she worried a bit. that's how much she ran into him at public places. he was there for her the first time they ran into each other. she had this depressed look on her face, and when he asked her what was wrong she just started crying, and told him every little thing. he didnt half way listen to her, he listened to her, and understood her pain. " well, i enjoy it too." she said, nodding along with him. she shook her head in disagreement when he said you could call bacon an invention. "if that was the case you'd have to call sun flower seeds, apple slices, all that jazz that comes form the earth an invention.."she teased him. "but it can be an invention in your imagination?" she suggested with a sly smirk. "hey those are not! skinny guys love skinny jeans! oooh! and lip gloss can be for anyone, they just don't know it yet." she winked playfully. "yeah music is awesome." she added in, she loved singing, she loved playing the violin as well. the only instrument out of hundreds she could play.
zel smiled when he asked what kind of work it would take to see her with no pants on and shizz. hah! a lot of work. she didn't think david would get that chance. he was her friend, that would be weird if anything. besides, her green eyes sparkled for bryce and only bryce. as well as, he had just lost someone he loved and everything. "loads of work, so much work.. its near impossible." she smiled. she nodded when he said he just needed to be alone, he wasnt interesting in seeing any girls in tiny shorts. she felt like a fool for bringing it up, of course he wouldn't be. she just put on a smile and nodded her head in agreement. "yeah, i understand, but being completely alone isn't healthy. you don't have to be in a relationship but friends, and people like that wouldn't hurt." she added in. there was a time she thought she didn't need any friends, that she wanted to be alone. then harley was there to just make her feel better, and she felt horrible for even thinking that way. friends were love. she smiled when the pie reached the table, "any positive adjective is good enough to describe pie." she smirked. then the lady had placed the coffee down too and she smiled up at her. in a 'thanking' matter. she smiled when he had took his first bite. she then picked up her fork and did the same. it tasted amazing, she loved this place. "this tastes amazing. i've never been big on apple pie, but i just might have to switch positions?" she smirked. she had always been a pumpkin pie sort of person.
