you were way out of line went and turned it all around on me again it was raining, as always, in the small town of dermont, and harley frost was enjoying every moment of it. the young woman didn't really like sunny days, not like most people around here. she preferred to watch the rain and take in the fresh scents it created. it was good for her, since she was locked up in her house all the time. she was an adult now, but she did still live with her parents. they took care of her when she needed it, since she was a poor college student. they were just worried, like any parent when they had a child with a heart defect. harley had a heart condition that prevented her from doing many things normal people could do. in high school, was often excused from gym class, in fear that the excursion would cause her to have an episode. when she tried to get away from virginia, via the army, she was declined entrance because of her condition. it made her feel less than human, so harley was less than perky lately.
her dark hair rested over her shoulders as she perked herself in the gazebo, to hide herself from the rain. her dark arms wrapped around her knees as she sat on the seating just to watch the rain pour down on the town. the watched it roll of the playground equipment, then pour over the logan darko memorial. sadly, harley had known logan, they had been friends before he disappeared. when they found his body, she remembered that day all too clearly. the police tapping off the park, the town crowding around it. she remembered seeing leighton, the younger sister of logan as she screamed his name and the police had to pry her from his body. she remembered her father grabbing her shoulders and pulling her into his arms. she remembered the tears that poured down her face as they covered logan's body with a sheet.
"miss you, you big ol' fool." she whispered and then rested her chin against her arms as she continued to look out at the green park. this was a beautiful little town, a place where you could escape and just with yourself. however, harley's mind was clouded with many different thoughts, one large thought of a certain boy in her life. they have been friends for such a long time, and now, everything was complicated between them. she didn't know how it all turned around and got this way, but she wasn't quite sure how to deal with it. was it beautiful he found her attractive and just wanted her to be like all the others, or was it real to him? she was skeptical, as she should be. she's known romean since they were kids, they were both close to logan darko, they were all just close because of the small proximity of the town. but they were older now, in college, and they had all these different feelings. she ran her fingers across the wood of the gazebo, her fingertips picking up droplets of rain as she ran her thumb across them. she then stuck her arm out into the rain, watching the drops roll over her smooth skin. it made her smile as she let out a cough, the cold starting to get to her a little. her parents had yelled at her for leaving the house, but she was tired of being so cooped up. she ran her hand against her chest then looked back out at the park, just staring with warm brown eyes.

* I CAN U S E SOMEBODY
LIKE SOMEONE LIKE Y O U* romean didnt know why, he didnt know why he had allow himself to fall for harley. sure, she was beautiful, but so were many other woman. but he beauty was skin deep, she had a good heart. he knew about her heart condition and its always made him attached to her in some way. he just wanted to build a really close relationship with her. knowing that someone you loved - yeah, love. he loved her. he wasnt suppose to. she was just a friend. he had a few friends when he was younger, she was one of them, and so was logan. he sure did miss logan. the three of them were so close when they where younger. of course romean didnt look at her in any certain way, being that she was a girl. he was a boy, a young kid at that. he loved everything about harley. everything from her name, her personality, he looks, her shape, her eyes. the way they twinkles when he store into them. she was an amazing girl, and she didnt deserve a guy like him. he was sarcastic, mean, in fact, he didnt believe in love until he met harley. romean is a big flirt, and focuses more on the outer beauty. thats his problem. all the girls he dated where so messed up, he couldnt count the number of times he's been cheated on. but he never got emotional about it, he just moved on to the next girl in line. sure, romean could act like a straight up perv, but he was putting on an act. he hung out with the big timers like dominic. even though dominic was his friend, he didnt trust him. dominic had a thing for raising hell, how oculd he be so sure that dominic wouldnt turn his back on him and raise some hell? start some trouble in his life? there was one thing he could be worried about. dominic knew this one thing about romean, what he had done. romean regretted it. basically he and his friends where hanging out and his friend made a bet. he told romean he wouldnt be able to ever go out with her, being that they had been best friends his whole life.
dominic was there and he knew about the whole thing. so basically he got paid 1 grand, money he didnt even need, being wealthy and all to go out with his friend. to him it was all funs and games at first, but he started feeling weird around her. he'd feel all warm inside when he saw her...hell, even when he thought about her. he couldnt stop smiling around her, which was odd for him. taking everything seriously. she had this thing about her, he didnt know what it was. but did he have to? it was obvious he was in love with her. he just hoped that dominic would keep his big mouth shut. he hoped she would never figure out and he could go on being happy. every day he tried not to think about her, but it was impossible. ugh! why was it that every time he closed his eyes he saw her smile? the guilt was eating him alive. but, she deserved so much better, he was a liar. he used her. he couldnt take back what he did. maybe hanigng around dominic was a bad thing. the guy was rubbing off on him,
dressing in a gray long sleeved shirt, light blue jeans, etc. he put on him jacket, and made his way outside. thinking about logan made him want to go tot he park, the park they did everything together at. the park where the three of them would hang out most of the time. besides, he had a feeling that the girl he couldnt stop thinking about would be there. she loved the cold weather, as did he. they where very alike when it came down to it. there was something about harley though. it was like she was becoming more upset everyday. he knew about her being denied into the military. that didnt upset him too much. he didnt know what he would do if she had went out there. there where a lot of things you couldnt take back, and one was time. this war has taken a toll on a lot of peoples lives. he just didnt want to think about it. he was a citizen, and he knew he could very well be drafted. thats what scarred him the most. he drove himself to the park and parked his car. walking around with his hands shoved in his pockets, the hood of his jacket prevented him from his hair getting wet. he continued to walk, he liked the park. especially when it was cold like this, that meant less people where around and he could just think a lot more. he turned his head to see a familiar figure, in the gazebo. he made his way over where harley was, a small smile taking over his face as he approached her with a small wave. he took a seat next to her, "hey harley," he smiled, looking at her, taking one of her hands in his. "what are you doing out here?" he asked her. harley was a mystery, well to him she was. you never knew what she would do or why she would do it. for example, the war. he never understood why she even volunteered.

you were way out of line went and turned it all around on me again harley wasn't really sure what she had planned for the day. she knew that it wasn't sitting in this park all day. she adjusted her position on the bench as she laid her arms on the side before her senses picked up on another presence. she lifted her head up to see that someone sit beside her. a smile formed on her soft lips as romean made his presence known to her. she giggled as she angled her body toward him before she felt his hand claim hers. She looked down at their hands entwined before she looked up into his brilliantly blue eyes. he was one of the most attractive guys she's ever met, and he was her best friend. she wondered why she never noticed before, but it could be that they used to chase each other around this very playground. with logan darko, and few other kids from the community. this town was so tightly knit, it was hard to believe that the kids wouldn't all know each other. there wasn't a person here that she didn't know. save for some of the university students that came from all over the place. everyone in dermont knew each other.
harley moved her slender body toward romean before she laid her other hand on his, looking away for a moment to watch the rain. she had to tell romean that happened to ray. he was another one of their friends, one of the boys that they played with as a child. he was gone now too, thanks to this vicious war they were a part of. it was odd that she had been so eager to join up. maybe it was to prove that she was good enough, to prove that she could serve her country. but her heart condition prevented her from ever being able to prove herself.
"i was feeling nostalgic. missing logan." she said, looking at the memorial for a moment before her facial expressions changed to one of sadness as she exhaled sharply. the cool air caused vapors to rise from her lips as she turned her head to meet romean's gaze, giving him a sad expression.
"did the whitmores call your dad?" she asked, looking into his eyes as she ran her hand over his, feeling his skin gently. Her dark fingers skated over his white ones. the skin tone difference between them was obvious, but that didn't matter to either of them. she was still a pretty girl to him and she was still a pretty boy to her. in a world that was thrust into a war because of racism, it made her think about things. despite the modern times they lived in, her father was still hesitant toward her dating a white kid. even if romean has been in her life almost her entire life, but now that they were an item, her dad hasn't been too pleased. harley didn't care however, because she knew that her feelings for romean were real. she was constantly worried that maybe his intentions weren't all that true, but she just had to believe him.
"ray was...shot yesterday. he didn't make it." she said, looking into romean's eyes, her brown ones conveying her sadness to him. they were down another friend now, and it was starting to weigh down on harely's heart. what else was this war going to take away from them? she leaned down and placed a kiss against his hand and rested her cheek on it. she rested their entwined hands on her knee before she placed her face on the back of his hand. she looked up at romean, waiting for his reaction as she ran her free hand down his arm gently.

* I CAN U S E SOMEBODY
LIKE SOMEONE LIKE Y O U* romeans light blue eyes store into her dark brown ones as he approached her. god, she was so beautiful. the way she laughed, it made im laugh a long wit her. when he sat next to her he smiled over at her, she had to be here for some reason. however, he wouldnt ask her. she was probably here for the same reason he was. to think about all the good old times with logan. rome was a tough guy, he didnt have time for tears and crying because of his loss. however,the boy was hurting inside, for many reasons, including the death of his old pal. so many people were dying because of this war, this stupid war. he barely understood what it was about. people could bitch and complain and come up with reasons, but when it all came to it. it was all about disrespect. america and iraq never respected each other. he believed it had to do with "my culture is better than yours" and all that jazz. war didnt solve anything, even though his mother and father were big on being republic. he thought no war was freedom, just because you didnt like a person didnt mean you have to go out of your way to set up a whole scheme to have his head blown off as well as his friends. war was horrible. it took lovers away from each other, these days only the best would survive. he was sitting next to harley, the girl of his life. he was thinking, what did war really prove? theres no way it did prove anything. could tears, cries, and blood really prove anything. he did, however, respect those who did volunteers meant the less people drafted. when he heard harley had volunteered his heart was broken. he could think straight now knowing that she wouldn't be out there fighting a dangerous war. however, here she was, next to him, holding his hand. he felt good, good knowing she was okay and would be okay. they were in love, and he just hoped they could stay like this forever. nothing would destroy them.. he looked over at logans memorial "yeah," he inhaled, and exhaled slowly. it was hard to talk about logan, he didnt want to seem weak and give into him emotions. believe it or not, all guys had then. "me too.." he told her softly.
he looked down at her. it pained him to see her so upset, he didnt ever want to see her upset. "he was a good guy, he left a lot of great memories.." he told her. kissing her on the forehead lightly then staring back into her sadden eyes. he looked at her hand on his, it was obvious, the difference in their skin color, he just didnt care. he loved her for her, her skin color just made her even more beautiful to him. he looked back at her, "yeah, they did....he's been pretty upset lately." he said. his mom loved harley, but his father could love her a bit more...he didnt approve of he too much, he didnt hate her though. he just rather rome date someone at his "level" he would tell him. he could remember when he first told his father about how much he loved harley, his father had been all, " she's not exactly at your level,, you can do much better, son.". but he was wrong. harley was the best girlfriend he's ever had. no matter what her social status was. if she needed him, he's support her. another thing he loved about her was that she was so independent. it just made him want to spoil her more. wasnt the mad of the relationship suppose to spoil his woman? his eyes widened a little when she said rays name..it was just something about the way she had said it. ray was a mutual friend of their too, who gone off to war. he could tell he was about to hear something he didnt want to hear. so once he hear everything she had to say he rose his eyebrows, cleared his throat a little as. then she had kissed his hand and rested her face upon it. "......i - i" he said his voice was shaky. it felt like everyone he loved was dying.
he was just thankful that harley was right here by his side. i'm sorry.." he said, for his previous stuttering. he could feel his eyes watering up but he sat up straight and held in the tears. "it feels like everyone i love is dying...because of this war, its taken its toll on everyone's life.." he sad, looking down at her. "i just want this to be over.." he said quietly. he was just happy that he still had harley, he'd go insane if he were to lose her. "well at least their in a better place, this world is fu - screwed up babe..." he told her. he did believe in heavan, but he didnt believe he's be going to it. "where did - um, where did he get shot at?" he asked, things like this he felt he needed to know. he had stopped himself from cursing, he did have a bad mouth to him and he didnt like harley having to hear all of that.he didnt want to die in pain, he would much rather die in sleep. however, noon knew how they were going to die. people could only wish for the quickest way out. thats why he couldnt respect suicidal people. he knew that so many people that died didnt want to, they'd do anything to live. life was beautiful, dying was not.it was as simple as that.
